Hello classes!

I wanted to reach out to you today as this past week has required a ton of pivoting-- I am sure-- with your families and your friends.  Know that I am sending you good thoughts and well wishes and the number one priority this week and the weeks to come is to focus on your health, to practice social distancing and to take care of your tribes.  I have been homeschooling my triplets and we have been baking, working with clay, painting, writing and reading (of course).  I will post some classic pictures as we move forward to keep you laughing while I attempt to each 3rd grade math in Spanish.  : )

Over this past weekend the district folks have asked that we begin to shift to online learning.  We will start VERY slowly with opportunities to check in-- but I feel like we have GOT this.  I told you the day we parted that we would make it work and we will.  I will post a discussion in each class tomorrow.  If you have access, give it a whirl and reach out.  Remember, don't panic EVER in the online world.  I am here for you and we will get everyone going in the coming weeks.  What's most important right now is your health and your family.  Get outside, make art, read and do everything that brings you joy.  And, if you've got the time,  jump in to our online classroom.

For students who do not have electronic devices at home, schools will be checking out Chromebooks.  Look for emails from Adam Camacho with information on how this will work. If you have friends who you think might not see this message, I’d appreciate it if you could pass this note on to them.
Between now and when we kick off our online learning, please:

  • Download the Google Classroom and Google Hangout Meet apps to your smartphone or tablet (if you have one) and allow notifications.  Of course, you can access these tools from a computer, too
Take care, and “see” you soon,

Ms. C

Dearest Students,

This is a stressful time but remember that we have each other AND this too shall pass.  It will.  Take this time to connect with what brings you joy from the inside.  Read amazing books, keep a journal, Facetime and connect with your loved ones.  This is a time of reflection and an opportunity to find the BEST in a challenging time.  I have lived through the epicenter of an earthquake and local fires while teaching-- schools closed and people rose up and did the best for each other.  Amidst the craziness and the fear there is a calm-- you must find it in yourself and act accordingly.  Be patient with everyone as you walk through this time.  I am here online to get you through the academic side of life once we (the teaching tribe at SDA) know what our directive is.  Stay tuned.

Once we (the teachers) get clear direction on how to help you complete the semester, I will connect with you in THREE spaces:  This website, the Google Classroom, and Turnitin.com.  If the district decides to move us to an online curriculum plan, I want to assure that we've got this.  I am prepared to help you through whatever school looks like in the coming weeks.  Until then, reflect, be patient and take great care of yourselves.  I am sending all the good vibes, and well wishes that I possibly can.  Happiest Friday to all.  We will be in touch very soon.

- Best,
Ms. Chufo
